ISRAEL: GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE
Dr. John McTernan

Israel’s History- Pre 1800’s

God called Abraham to be a blessing to all people: Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham and his seed that was part of this blessing. This covenant was unconditional and included the land now called Israel: Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. (8) And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan , for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

The covenant was passed to Isaac and his seed (Genesis 26:3) and Jacob and his seed (Genesis 35:12.) The land belongs forever to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their seed: Psalm 105:6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. (7) He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. (8) He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. (9) Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; (10) And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: (11) Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan , the lot of your inheritance:

The Jewish people were warned, under the law of Moses, that if they sinned and disobeyed they would be taken off the land and dispersed into all nations: Deuteronomy 28:63 And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it. (64) And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.

Israel sinned and was dispersed according to the law of Moses, but this did not end the everlasting covenant with Abraham: Leviticus 26:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land . . . (44) And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. (45) But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

Romans 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, (25) For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. (26) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:(28) As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. (29) For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Israel ’s dispersion was only temporary and God would bring the Jewish people back to the land. Modern Israel exists because of the covenant God made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendents: Ezekiel 36:22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel , Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel , but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. (24) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

At the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, Israel will recognize Him as their Messiah and reconciled to Him: Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

National Israel has a fantastic future with God. At the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus, He will restore the Kingdom of Israel . He will sit on the throne of David from the magnificent temple which He will build and rule over the entire world: Zechariah 6:11-13 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest; And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

When the Lord Jesus is ruling from the throne of David , Israel will be holy as they will have been purged of their sin. The Jews will be the envy of all other peoples: Isaiah 4:3,4 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

Zechariah 8:23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

The Scriptural promise still holds true that God blesses those that bless the Jewish people: Obadiah 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.[1]

Israel’s History- Post 1800’s

Israel, God’s Anvil-

The words of the Lord are pure words: pure as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. (Psalms 12:6)

The rebirth of the nation of Israel has been a real slow process. The process started in the late 1800’s and has continued right up to the present time. At times, this process seems to stop, and then all of sudden a huge event takes place that accelerates it. The start of the Jews coming back did not seem significant at first. But, there was a small but steady stream of them. Then came WW1 and in 1917 the Balfour Declaration. Then like an explosion, the land was being readied for the return. The period between world wars was one of tension and terrorism. There was no apparent move of God toward fulfilling the covenant.

Then came WWII and the Nazi holocaust. The events of WWII set the stage for hundreds of thousands of Jews to go back to Israel. Almost like an explosion, there were huge numbers of Jews ready to go back to Israel. Then came the rebirth of the nation in 1948 and the immediate war. The war ended and Israel was once again faced with tension and terrorism. For 20 years, there seemed no end to the shelling and terrorists attacks.

Then came the Six-Day War in 1967, and like a bolt of lightning, Israel had all of a united Jerusalem as its capital. Since 1967, there has been a major war, plus fighting in Lebanon and continual terrorist attacks against Israel.

Starting in September 2000, a low grade war was started over Jerusalem. This war is a continuation of the fighting that started in 1920. Although the fighting and terrorism seems endless, there will be an end. There seems to be tension, terrorism and fighting between all the major moves to restore Israel. There has been almost 40 years since Jerusalem was united.

Now, the fighting is directly over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount area. The Bible states that the last great world war will be over Jerusalem. All the nations of the world will be drawn to Jerusalem. God is going to use Jerusalem as an anvil against the nations of the world.

The fuse to start the last world war may have been lit in September 2000, when the Temple Mount became the scene of bloody combat. God is moving to fulfill the promises of His everlasting covenant, but one has to be patient. God seems to have moved very slowly with Israel to completely fulfill the promise.

Looking back, since 1917, tremendous progress has been made. Israel is a nation with Jerusalem as the capital. Israel is a mighty military power. Israel has a powerful economy. The rest of the promises of the covenant will be fulfilled in God’s time. No matter what was tried by the British, Moslems, United Nations, European Union or any other group, their attempts have not been able to stop the rebirth of the nation.

Israel is truly like an anvil, and nations are going to be broken trying to destroy God’s covenant nation. In watching God working, great patience is required. The restoration has taken almost a century to get this far. God has His own agenda and timetable. Watching Jerusalem and the war that started in September 2000 over the Temple Mount, shows that God’s timetable may be accelerating.

Remember, Jesus Christ said that Jerusalem was the key to the timetable. With the rebirth of Israel and Jerusalem the capital, this nation becomes an anvil for false views of God and Bible doctrine. Most religions of the world do not recognize God’s covenant over the land of Israel. Some believe the Jews had a covenant, but this covenant is no longer in effect. God is using Israel to now show the literalness of His word. The rebirth of Israel confronts false teaching, doctrine and prophets. Israel has become an anvil to break the false doctrines and misunderstandings of the Bible.

Islam does not recognize the covenant with Isaac and Jacob, but instead believes God made a covenant with Abraham and Ishmael. Islam believes the Koran and not the Bible is the word of God. The Koran fails to mention Jerusalem even once, and it does not mention the rebirth of the nation of Israel. Jerusalem is mentioned 811 times in the Bible. The rebirth of Israel is on page after page in the Bible while the Koran is silent.

The rebirth of Israel shows the authority of the Bible as the word of God. God’s everlasting covenant and the rebirth of Israel is like an anvil against the Koran. Israel is proof the Koran and Mohammed are wrong. This tension between Israel and the Koran can never be peacefully resolved. For Islam to recognize the nation of Israel would be an admission that the Koran and Islam are wrong. Moslem fundamentalists refer to Israel as the “Zionist entity.” They will not even recognize the nation of Israel.

There is a huge confrontation on the horizon between the God of the Bible and Islam. The heart of the confrontation will be the Jewish control of Jerusalem. God is using Israel as an anvil against Islam. When the Islamic nations come against Israel and Jerusalem, they will be destroyed.

God is also using Israel as an anvil against false teachings within the Christian Church. There are doctrines called replacement theology and covenant theology. Both these doctrines are fluid and there are many branches to them; however, believers hold the Church has now replaced Israel in the everlasting covenant. These doctrines hold that God has no future plan with the nation of Israel, and when Israel was destroyed in 70AD, it ended the everlasting covenant. Israel then fell under the curse of the Law, but all the blessings in the Bible now belong to the Church. These doctrines are in stark contrast to what the prophet Jeremiah states:

Jeremiah claims that the nation of Israel will remain forever: Jeremiah 31:35 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: (36) If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. (37) Thus saith the Lord; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord.

God has used the rebirth of Israel to prove both these doctrines to be incorrect. Just as Moses and the prophets have said, the physical descendants have returned and the nation was reborn. The Bible is to be taken literally about Jerusalem meaning Jerusalem, Israel meaning Israel, and not spiritualizing it to say Jerusalem and Israel now mean the Church. To try and get around the error of the replacement and covenant theology, some believers in these doctrines have gone so far to say the Jews in Israel are not real Jews. When these “Jews” were being killed in pogroms in Russia, no one said stop they are not real Jews. When these “Jews” were being killed by the Nazis, no one said to stop they are not real Jews. Now, when these same “Jews” go back to Israel, all of a sudden they are no longer Jews. God is using the rebirth of Israel to cut right through false and incorrect views of His word. The promise of God in the Bible is crystal clear on page after page. Manmade doctrines and false prophets have tried to alter this covenant, but in the latter day, God has made the truth clear for all to see. God is very serious about His word. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. Jeremiah 1:12.

Believing in false doctrines about the literalness of the rebirth of Israel, blinds people to the working of God that is occurring right before their eyes. God is moving to fulfill His word and millions cannot see it because they are following false prophets or wrong doctrine about Israel and Jerusalem.

The very sad part is believers in Jesus Christ, because of false doctrine, can actually be against the work of God. Many fail to support God’s covenant nation and can be against it, because of a false understanding of Israel and the everlasting covenant. It is very serious, to be on the wrong side of God when He is defending His everlasting covenant. The wrong doctrine can cause a person to be apathetic toward Israel and the Jews. This can lead to the failure to pray for and support Israel in a time of crisis. This incorrect doctrine blinds a person’s ability to see God’s judgment falling on America for forcing Israel.

God is real serious about the land and covenant. Israel will literally be used as an anvil to destroy the nations that come against Jerusalem. The nations will be drawn to Jerusalem like a moth to a light. Multitudes of people have rejected God and the Bible or just do not believe His word. This rebellion will cause the nations to come against God’s anvil. God has warned beforehand what will happen when armies try to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem. The entire world will see the mighty power of God, as He uses Israel as His anvil. This is all laid out in the Bible, and will be covered in depth in the chapter titled, Jerusalem a Burdensome Stone. God is using the rebirth of Israel like an anvil to expose false prophets, doctrines and to have a literal witness on the earth to the authority of His word. It is important that one’s faith be in accord with the truth of the Bible. God’s word has been tested in the furnace of the earth. The word has proven itself to be like pure gold and silver.

The everlasting covenant has been tested now for 4,000 years of history. It is in effect for all to see. God’s is faithful to His word and promises. His word is pure for all to see. “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” [2]

WHAT IS GOD’S PROPHETIC
PURPOSE FOR ISRAEL?
By Justin Johnson

The Bible describes a two-fold plan and purpose that God has for the universe. The difference between these dual programs inside God’s purpose resides in the information that was ‘spoken by the mouth of the prophets since the world began’ and that which was ‘kept secret since the world began’ (Acts 3:21, Romans 16:25). We mark the difference between the two programs by calling one the subject of prophecy while the other is the subject of the mystery revealed to Paul (Eph 3:1-5).

We can further distinguish these programs by their sphere of dominion. The prophetic program is promised a future dominion on earth, while the program which was kept a mystery is promised a dominion in heavenly places. These two programs describe what will fulfill God’s single purpose for eternity – that all things would be in Christ (Eph 1:10).

God began to reveal his plan for the earth almost immediately to Adam, Abraham, and eventually to the nation Israel. However, he kept the information of his heavenly program a secret from the foundation of the world (Eph 3:9). The aspects of God’s program for the earth can be summed up with the following characteristics: Israel is created as God’s chosen people. God created the nation Israel to have a privileged status before Him as a peculiar people (Gen 12:2, Exo 19:5, Rom 3:1-2).

His chosen nation is promised a kingdom on earth. God promised a specific piece of land that would mark where He would set up his kingdom on earth (Gen 13:15, Deut 34:4, Psalm 37:22, Matt 5:5, Isaiah 2:2-4).

The kingdom will rule the world with the Messiah as King. A Messiah was promised to Israel that would lead the nation into world dominion and power (Daniel 2:44-45, Isaiah 9:6-7, Jeremiah 23:5).

Israel will be the channel of blessing to the Gentile nations. Through their worldwide influence, and access to God, Israel would be the channel of God’s blessing to Gentile nations (Gen 12:3, 22:18, Zech 8:20-23, Isa 60:3, Matt 5:16).

Righteousness comes through God’s covenants. God gave the Old Covenant as a token that Israel would be a nation that followed after God. The New Covenant would replace the old as the method of attaining righteousness and entrance into the kingdom (Deut 6:25, Eze 36:24-27, Matt 5:20, John 14:21, 1 John 3:7-10).

Israel will live through tribulation before entering the kingdom. With the divine protection of God, Israel would be able to live through the time of His wrath poured out on earth. They would be refined as silver and come out prepared to enter the kingdom on Earth (Dan 9:24, Zech 13:9, Mark 13:13, 1 Peter 4:17).

These aspects stand in stark contrast to the aspects of God’s mystery program, or God’s program for heavenly places (see “What is the Mystery”). Today we who are saved are not participants of God’s program for the earth, but rather we are ambassadors of God’s heavenly purpose residing on earth to do his will (2 Cor 5:20, Eph 2:6).

Understanding the difference between the Prophecy and the Mystery in the Bible is a key to understanding what God’s will is for us today. This basic truth can help us better understand our Bibles and the purpose of our Lord and Savior.

IN DEFENSE OF ZIONISM

Alan Dershowitz [3] wrote a shocking expose in Newsmax on the growing hatred for Israel where he said: In many circles, anti-Zionism easily morphs into anti-Semitism, and in some countries Jews are afraid to walk the streets wearing any clothing or symbols that identify them as Jewish.

The lie that Zionists stole Palestinian land is the mantra for both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas who teach it to their children and propagate it in their media. This claim has vast importance, as Palestinian Media Watch explains: “Presenting the creation of the [Israeli] state as an act of theft and its continued existence as a historical injustice serves as the basis for the PA’s non-recognition of Israel’s right to exist.” The accusation of theft also undermines Israel’s position internationally.

But is this accusation true?

No, it is not. Ironically, the building of Israel represents about the most peaceable in-migration and state creation in history. To understand why requires seeing Zionism in context. Simply put, conquest is the historic norm; governments everywhere were established through invasion, nearly all states came into being at someone else’s expense. No one is permanently in charge, everyone’s roots trace back to somewhere else.

Germanic tribes, Central Asian hordes, Russian tsars, and Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors remade the map. Modern Greeks have only a tenuous connection to the Greeks of antiquity. Who can count the number of times Belgium was overrun? The United States came into existence by defeating Native Americans. Kings marauded in Africa, Aryans invaded India. In Japan, Yamato-speakers eliminated all but tiny groups such as the Ainu.

The Middle East, due to its centrality and geography, has experienced more than its share of invasions, including the Greek, Roman, Arabian, Crusader, Seljuk, Timurid, Mongolian, and modern European. Within the region, dynastic froth caused the same territory – Egypt for example – to be conquered and re-conquered.

Many wars over Jerusalem: Emperor Titus celebrated his victory over the Jews in 70 A.D. with an arch showing Roman soldiers carrying off a menorah from the Temple.

The land that now makes up Israel was no exception. In Jerusalem Besieged: From Ancient Canaan to Modern Israel, Eric H. Cline writes of Jerusalem: “No other city has been more bitterly fought over throughout its history.” He backs up that claim, counting “at least 118 separate conflicts in and for Jerusalem during the past four millennia.” He calculates Jerusalem to have been destroyed completely at least twice, besieged 23 times, captured 44 times, and attacked 52 times. The PA fantasizes that today’s Palestinians are descended from a tribe of ancient Canaan, the Jebusites; in fact, but they are overwhelmingly the off-spring of invaders and immigrants seeking economic opportunities.

Against this tableau of unceasing conquest, violence, and overthrow, Zionist efforts to build a presence in the Holy Land until 1948 stand out as astonishingly mild, as mercantile rather than military. Two great empires, the Ottomans and the British, ruled Eretz Yisrael; in contrast, Zionists lacked military power. They could not possibly achieve statehood through conquest.

Instead, they purchased land. Acquiring property dunam by dunam, farm by farm, house by house, lay at the heart of the Zionist enterprise until 1948. The Jewish National Fund, founded in 1901 to buy land in Palestine “to assist in the foundation of a new community of free Jews engaged in active and peaceable industry,” was the key institution – and not the Haganah, the clandestine defense organization founded in 1920.

Zionists also focused on the rehabilitation of what was barren and considered unusable. They not only made the desert bloom but drained swamps, cleared water channels, reclaimed wasteland, forested bare hills, cleared rocks, and removed salt from the soil. Jewish reclamation and sanitation work precipitously reduced the number of disease-related deaths.

Only when the British mandatory power gave up on Palestine in 1948, followed immediately by an all-out attempt by Arab states to crush and expel the Zionists, did the latter take up the sword in self defense and go on to win land through military conquest. Even then, as the historian Efraim Karsh demonstrates in Palestine Betrayed, most Arabs fled their lands; exceedingly few were forced off.

This history contradicts the Palestinian account that “Zionist gangs stole Palestine and expelled its people” which led to a catastrophe “unprecedented in history” (according to a PA 12th-grade textbook) or that Zionists “plundered the Palestinian land and national interests, and established their state upon the ruins of the Palestinian Arab people” (writes a columnist in the PA’s daily). International organizations, newspaper editorials, and faculty petitions reiterate this falsehood worldwide.

Israelis should hold their heads high and point out that the building of their country was based on the least violent and most civilized movement of any people in history. Gangs did not steal Palestine; merchants purchased Israel. [4]

10 LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL – MYTH REFUTED
Dr. Chuck Missler

There are many groups that believe the northern tribes, separated during the rift between Rehoboam and Jeroboam after the death of Solomon (and subsequently taken captive by Assyria in 722 b.c.), later migrated to Europe and elsewhere.

The myth of the “Ten Lost Tribes” is the basis for “British- Israelism” and other colorful legends, but these stories have no real Biblical basis. They are based upon misconceptions derived from the misreading of various Bible passages.

The Faithful Voted With Their Feet

Before the Assyrian captivity, substantial numbers from the northern tribes had identified themselves with the house of David. The rebellion of Jeroboam and subsequent crises caused many to repudiate the Northern Kingdom and unite with the Southern Kingdom in a common alliance to the house of David and a desire to worship the Lord in Jerusalem.

In 930 b.c., Jeroboam ruled the Northern Kingdom from his capital in Samaria. When Jeroboam turned the Northern Kingdom to idolatry, the Levites (and others who desired to remain faithful) migrated south to Rehoboam.

Horrified that Jeroboam had set up a rival religion with golden calf worship at Bethel and Dan, many Northerners moved south, knowing that the only place acceptable to God was the Temple on Mt. Moriah. Those who favored idolatry migrated north to Jeroboam.

Later, when Asa reigned as king in the south, another great company came from the north.

Years after the deportation by Assyria, King Hezekiah of Judah issued a call to all Israel to come and worship in Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover. Eighty years later King Josiah of Judah also issued a call, and an offering for the Temple was received from “Manasseh and Ephraim and all the remnant of Israel….”

Eventually, all 12 tribes were represented in the south. God even addresses the 12 tribes in the south: “Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin….”

The “tribe of Judah” (2 Kings 17:18, et al.) is used idiomatically for the Southern Kingdom. When encountering the tribal designations, it is important to distinguish between the territories allocated to the tribes and the people themselves.

The Northern Kingdom Falls

In 724 b.c. Shalmaneser V besieged Samaria for three years. King Hoshea of Israel attempted to revolt against paying Assyrians annual tribute money–a treaty with Pharaoh of Egypt did not help –and Samaria, Jeroboam’s capital, fell in 722 b.c. with Sargon II seizing power in 721 b.c.

The Assyrians implemented their infamous policy of mixing conquered peoples to keep them from organizing a revolt. Israelite captives were mixed with Persians and others, and strangers from far-off lands were resettled in Samaria. The resulting mixed, quasi-Jewish populations became the “Samaritans.” (You can read about this “fall” in 2 Kings 17.)

Not all from the Northern Kingdom were deported. Archaeologists have uncovered annals of the Assyrian Sargon, in which he tells that he carried away only 27,290 people and 50 chariots.

Population estimates of the Northern Kingdom at that time range from 400,000 to 500,000; less than 1/20th were deported– mostly the leadership from the capital, Samaria. The rest of the Northern Kingdom were taken by Assyria as slaves, which were a valuable commodity. (It is difficult to view the Assyrians as careless enough to let their captives wander off to Europe.)

When the Babylonians take over Assyria, the descendants of the “ten tribes” were probably again commingled with the captives of Judah.

The Babylonians Take Over

When the Northern Kingdom went into captivity (722 b.c.), all 12 tribes were also represented in the south. When the Babylonians took the Southern Kingdom into captivity (586 b.c.), members of all 12 tribes of Israel were involved. Isaiah, prophesying to Judah, refers to them as the “House of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel…” (Isaiah 48:1; cf. vv. 12-14).

Post-Captivity Terminology

After the Babylonian captivity, the terms “Jew” and “Israelite” are used interchangeably. Ezra calls the returning remnant “Jews” 8 times and “Israel” 40 times. (Ezra also speaks of “all Israel”: Ezra 2:70; 3:11; 8:35; 10:25, et al.) Nehemiah uses the term “Jew” 11 times and “Israel” 22 times. Nehemiah too speaks of “all Israel” being back in the land (Nehemiah 12:47). The remnant who returned from Babylon is represented as “the nation” (Malachi 1:1, et al.).

The same is true in the New Testament. Our Lord is said to have offered Himself to the nation, “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 10:5-6; 15:24). Tribes other than Judah are mentioned specifically in the New Testament as being represented in the land.

Anna knew her tribal identity was of the tribe of Asher (Luke 2:36). Paul knew he was of the tribe of Benjamin, a “Jew” and an “Israelite” (Romans 11:1). The New Testament speaks of “Israel” 75 times and uses the word “Jew” 174 times.

At the Feast of Pentecost Peter cries, “Ye men of Judea” (Acts 2:14), “ye men of Israel…” (Acts 2:22), and “All the house of Israel” (Acts 2:36).

Regathered as One

Ezekiel 36 and 37, the Dry Bones Vision, declares that Judah (Jews) and Israel (10 tribes) shall be joined as one in the regathering. This is true today. (The total physical descendants were not the people to whom the promises were made [Romans 9:4-7].)

Anti-Semitism

Accompanying some of the legends of the so-called “Ten Lost Tribes” are aspersions on the present State of Israel and the people being regathered in the Land. These various theories such as “British Israelism” are by their nature anti-Semitic because they deny the Jewish people their proper place in the plan of God. Let’s remember that Genesis 12:3 has never been repealed!

Israel is being regathered in the land just as God has announced. There is yet to come an event which will awaken them to realize that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob once again has His hand upon them (Ezekiel 38, 39). I believe this event could happen at any moment.

The Throne of David was promised to the Son of Mary (Luke 1:32). I believe His taking possession of it is on the near horizon. Maranatha!

20 FACTS ABOUT JERUSALEM AND ISRAEL

  1. Nationhood and Jerusalem: Israel became a nation in 1312 BC, two thousand (2000) years before the rise of Islam.
  2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.
  1. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BC, the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand (1000) years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.
  1. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 lasted no more than 22 years.
  1. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.
  1. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.
  1. King David founded the city of Jerusalem Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.
  1. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.
  1. Arab and Jewish Refugees: In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left (many in fear of retaliation by their own brethren, the Arabs), without ever seeing an Israeli soldier. The ones who stayed were afforded the same peace, civility, and citizenship rights as everyone else.
  1. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.
  1. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.
  1. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own people’s lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.
  1. The Arab-Israeli Conflict: the Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.
  2. The PLO’s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.
  1. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.
  1. The UN Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.
  1. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.
  1. The UN was silent while 58 Jerusalem synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.
  1. The UN was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.
  1. The UN was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like a policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. [6]

THE PALESTINIAN MYTH

Finally some truth and sanity in the Middle East politics. Actually the truth and sanity came from United States Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich (2012) who rightly called the Palestinians an “invented” people. As students of Bible prophecy we know that there has never been a Palestinian nation, culture, art, economy, language, etc. but the world is full of anti-Semitism and as a result the lie of “Palestinians” being from the ancient land of Israel is nothing but a satanic creation from the pit of Hell. The fact is, the so called “Palestinian” people were  invented as a means of dividing the Holy land of God with the intolerant Islamic hordes that actually moved to the region in the 1800s when the Jews repatriated their ancient homeland. As for Gingrich, the Jerusalem Post reports:

. . . the Palestinians are an “invented” people who want to destroy Israel. The former speaker of the US House of Representatives sided with Israel in its decades-old dispute with the Palestinians but took it a step further in an interview with the Jewish Channel.

Moreover, Gingrich differed with official US policy that respects the Palestinians as a people deserving of their own state based on negotiations with Israel.

“Remember, there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire” until the early 20th century, Gingrich said. “I think that we’ve had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs, and who were historically part of the Arab community. And they had a chance to go many places, and for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and it’s tragic,” he said.

Gingrich is exactly right in that there was no Palestinian state, etc. and the truth of the matter is that the “Palestinian” myth is a lie designed to promote anti-Semitism along with the eventual destruction of the Jews in modern day Israel.

Well, the God of Israel has something to say about that in the Holy Bible. It is clear from Scripture that God gave the Jews the promised land of Israel (Gen. 12:7; 13:15-17; 15:7-18; 24:7; Joshua; and many more), which in fact covers much more land than the modern state of Israel covers today. [7] He gave them this land as a permanent covenant to which the Jewish people were to use for worshiping him in a land of their own. It is no secret that many people have tried unsuccessfully to dislodge the Jews from the land of Israel. Adolph Hitler met and planned with numerous Jewish enemies to try to destroy them as they fled Europe during the years before, during, and after the Holocaust where at least six million were slaughtered. Photographs show Hitler meeting with many of today’s same Islamic enemies who follow the anti-Semitic teachings of the Koran.

While all of this is nothing new in history, the fact that a major political figure on the U.S. Presidential stage would make a strong stand for Israel and at the same time expose this “Palestinian” myth is of significance. It is time people got off the fence and took a side that they are going to stand on. For me and my house, I will stand with Israel and help people like Newt Gingrich to expose the myth of the “Palestinian” people and expose the anti-Semitism that is behind it.

When the Gingrich article surfaced, the Palestinians of course responded that his remarks would stir up trouble in the region and harm the peace process. This is typical of the ongoing hypocritical nonsense from the so called “Palestinians” as they know very well that there is no such thing as the “Palestinian” people. The Palestinian people are nothing more than groups of people who came from neighboring Islamic countries looking for work and a better life than the one they had in their original lands. Because Judaism and Islam are not compatible the lie was formulated to introduce the so called “Palestinian” people in order to try to claim the land of Israel. The land of Israel is surrounded on nearly every side by Islamic Jihadist countries that will not be satisfied with a peaceful co-existence, they lust for- and are plotting- the complete destruction of the Jewish state.

Hear me friend. If “Palestinians” really wanted a homeland, they have one. It is known today as Jordan. The majority of people living in Jordan identify themselves as “Palestinians” despite there being no such thing. The solution for the entire Middle East peace process is for today’s “Palestinians” who occupy the West Bank to cross the border and go into Jordan where they belong. Dividing  Israel would be suicidal for the Jews and God will not tolerate it (Zech. 12-14).

Despite the truth that there is no such thing as “Palestinians” the world will never go along with any sensible plan involving so called “Palestinians” relocating to Jordan. The world’s “peacekeepers” in the UN are led by a majority of Islamic countries that have used their international political powers as a whipping post for Israel on the international stage. It is refreshing to see a politician like Gingrich tell the truth about the region as I believe that there is no hope for a two state solution, nor should there be a two state solution. The Palestinians just need to go home where they belong and let Israel be herself. Let us continue to watch the political landscape as the candidates for the U.S. presidency continue to tackle and debate the major issues facing the world today. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee (Psalms 122:6). [8]

REPLACEMENT THEOLOGY REFUTED
Dr. Mike Johnston

There is a growing anti-Semitic heresy amongst Christians originating from the synagogue of Satan (Rev. 2:9; 3:9) that claims the church is the new Israel. It is called replacement theology. While this is a self-damning heterodoxy, we believe here at the PMI Center it is easily refuted by proper Biblical exegesis.

Distinguished Bible authority Dr. Thomas Ice agrees: “Replacement theology is the view that the church is the new or true Israel that has permanently replaced or superseded Israel as the people of God. Another term, often found in academic circles, for replacement theology is supersessionism. Replacement theology has been the fuel that has energized Medieval anti-Semitism, Eastern European pogroms, the Holocaust and contemporary disdain for the modern state of Israel. [9] Mike Vlach [10] notes: ‘The acceptance or rejection of supersessionism may also influence how one views the modern state of Israel and events in the Middle East.’ Wherever replacement theology has flourished, the Jews have had to run for cover.”

The Wrong View: The Church is a Continuation of Israel

The dominant view in Christianity has been that the Church is the New Israel, a continuation of the concept of Israel from the Old Testament. This view teaches that the Church is the replacement for Israel and that the many promises made to Israel in the Bible are fulfilled in the Christian Church, not in biblical, literal, Israel. So, the prophecies in Scripture concerning the blessing and restoration of Israel to the Land of Promise are “spiritualized” into promises of God’s blessing for the Church. The prophecies of condemnation and judgment, however, still remain for national Israel and the Jewish people. This view has been called Replacement Theology because the Church replaces Israel in the program of God. Major problems exist with this view, such as the continuing existence of the Jewish people throughout the centuries and especially with the revival of the modern state of Israel. If Israel has been condemned by God, there being no future for the Jewish nation, how do we account for the supernatural survival of the Jewish people, Israel’s rebirth among the gentile nations, victories in major wars with the Arabs and a flourishing modern democratic Jewish state?

The Right View: The Church is Totally Different and Distinct from Israel

Although being suppressed throughout the history of the Church, the view that Israel and the Church are different is clearly taught in the New Testament. In this view, the Church is completely different and distinct from Israel and the two are never to be confused or used interchangeably. We are taught from Scripture that the Church is an entirely new creation, that came into being on the Day of Pentecost and will continue until it is translated to Heaven at the Rapture (Eph. 1:9-11). The Church has no relationship to the curses and blessings for Israel, the covenants, promises and warnings are valid only for Israel. Israel has been set aside in God’s program during these past 2,000 years of dispersion. The Lord has preserved the Jewish people through great persecutions, though they are largely in unbelief.

After the Rapture (1 Thess. 4:16-18) God will restore Israel. The first event at this time is the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble,” also known as the Great Tribulation. This is a horrible period of seven years, which begins moderately during the first half then intensifies in full during the latter half. The world will be judged for rejecting Christ, while Israel is prepared through the trials of the Great Tribulation for the Second Coming of the Messiah. Now, when Christ does return to the earth, at the end of the Tribulation, Israel will be ready to receive Him. The remnant of Israel which survives the Tribulation will be saved and the Lord will establish His kingdom on this earth with the capital as Jerusalem. With Christ reigning as King, Israel will be the leading nation and representatives from all nations will come to Jerusalem to honor and worship the King. The Church will return with Christ and will reign with Him for a literal thousand years (Rev. 20:1-5).

The History of the Change

How did the thinking in the Church change toward Israel? Slowly, the Gentile majority in the Church began to view Israel as a relic of the past. With spiritual competition between the two groups, we can see why the Church adopted the view that it was the new Israel. The view of the Church was that the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD was brought about divinely, that God had ordained the end of Jewish unbelieving Israel. Since Jerusalem was in ruins and the Jewish people were scattered throughout the world, it seemed evident that God was finished with national Israel. Theologians now proposed that Israel in the Scriptures did not really mean literal Israel, instead, it meant the Church. The Church now became the new Israel and through this spiritualization, wherever blessings are spoken of to Israel in the Old Testament, it was interpreted to mean the Church. In essence they simply replaced Israel with the Church.

Replacement Theology became the position of the Church during the time of Augustine (A.D. 354-430), who popularized it in his book The City of God. Initially Augustine claimed that he was a Chiliast, the belief in the literal thousand year reign of Christ on the earth, the basic view of Premillennialism today. Having come to the conclusion that this view was “inferior” and “carnal,” he adopted the position that the reign of Christ should be much more “spiritual” and it would occur during this present Church Age. His spiritualizing method, of course, eliminated true Israel and the losing of all the promises God made to the Jewish nation, which he viewed as now being fulfilled within the Church.

What Did The Apostolic Church Believe?

Almost all students of the early church agree that Premillennialism, or Chiliasm, was the most widely held view of the apostolic church. Philip Schaff, the noted authority on church history writes, “The most striking point in the eschatology of the ante-Nicene Age [A.D. 100-325] is the prominent chiliasm, or millenarianism, . . . a widely current opinion of distinguished teachers, such as Barnabas, Papia, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Methodius, and Lactantius” (Philip Schaff. History of the Christian Church. New York: Scribner, 1884, Vol. 2, p. 614).

Premillennialism began to die out in the established Catholic Church during the time of Augustine, though it has always survived as a Church doctrine. Even when it has not been widely known it survived through “underground” and “fringe” groups of Believers. The last 200 years have seen the greatest development and spread of Premillennialism, which, like the early church, recognizes a future glorious hope for literal Israel. Beginning in Britain and spreading to America, consistent Premillennialism, known as Dispensational Premillennialism, has come forth as a major theological view in the Church.

The Biblical Basis for Premillennialism

Both the Old Testament and the New Testament support a Premillennial understanding of God’s plan for humanity. Even so, the strongest support for Premillennialism is found in the clear teaching of Revelation 20:1-7, where it says, six times, that Christ’s kingdom will last 1,000 years. After the Tribulation the Lord will return and establish His kingdom with the nation of Israel, Christ will reign over the whole earth with Jerusalem as His capital and Israel will be the leader of the nations. The Church will reign with Him for a literal thousand years. 1 Philip Schaff. History of the Christian Church. New York: Scribner, 1884, Vol. 2, p. 614. [11]

PMI EDITOR’S NOTE: Replacement theology is the teaching of seducing spirits and doctrine of devils (1 Tim. 4:1) that the Lord Jesus warned would flourish in the last days church [12]: Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee (Revelation 3:9). It is an insult to Israel and an affront to God. DO NOT be a part of such heresy my friend!

CHRISTIAN REPLACEMENT THEOLOGY
Dr. John McTernan

God is using Israel as an anvil against false teachings within the Christian Church.  There are false doctrines that are called dominion theology, covenant theology and preterism.  These doctrines are fluid and there are many branches to them; however, there is one basic tenet to which they all agree: the Christian church has now replaced Israel in the everlasting covenant with Abraham.

These doctrines hold that God has no future plan with national Israel , and when the Roman armies destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD, it ended the everlasting covenant.   Israel then fell under the curse of the Law, and all the blessings in the Bible now belong to the Church.  The Church now is the seed of Abraham.  These doctrines falsely state that God has no future with the nation of Israel .

These doctrines are in stark contrast to what prophet after prophet states.  Jeremiah, for example, states the LORD will never cast off all Israel for sin.  Jeremiah claims that the nation of Israel will remain forever, and God will never cast them all away.

Jeremiah 31:35-37: Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:  (36)  If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.  (37)  Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

Ezekiel records that God dispersed Israel into all nations because of sin, but God would one day bring them back because of His holy name.  God tied His name to the everlasting covenant and for this reason He will restore Israel . God will not restore Israel because of their righteousness but because of His holy name.  The nation of Israel exists today only because of the holy name of the God of Israel.

Ezekiel 36:19, 21-24, 28. And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. (21) But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. (22) …Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel , but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. (23) And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen . . . (24) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.  (28) And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Zechariah prophesied the restoration of Israel ; however, when they return it is in unbelief toward God and the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.  The prophet shows God will restore Jerusalem , and He will judge the nations for trying to destroy Jerusalem .  At the time of this judgment, then Israel turns to belief in the Lord Jesus, “…and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him…”  Israel is in unbelief today, just as Zechariah stated would happen.  The day of their restoration to the Lord God of Israel remains yet in the future:

Zechariah 12:9, 10:  And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem . (10) And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

God is using the rebirth of Israel to prove these replacement doctrines are incorrect.  Just as Moses and the prophets wrote, the physical descendants of Abraham have returned and restored the nation.  In the Bible, Jerusalem literally means the city of Jerusalem .  Israel means Israel , and one cannot spiritualize it to mean the Church.  Islam and replacement theology both refuse to believe the Bible about the restoration of Israel and Jerusalem .  These combined false beliefs fail to prevent the restoration of Israel .

If this restoration of Israel is not of God, then what is it?  Could it be a Divine trick of some sort?  Page after page in the Bible prophesied the restoration.  The restoration of modern Israel matches these prophecies of the Bible.  So, it comes down to the final authority.  Is a manmade doctrine like replacement theology or Islam the final authority, or the Bible with its clear verses that establish the restoration of Israel ?

The restoration of Israel smashes replacement theology.  This restoration proves the error of this belief system.  The foundation of replacement theology is very simple.  It rests upon unbelief in God’s word.  This is a very serious error that leads to consequences with God, including spiritual blindness.

To try and get around the error of the replacement and covenant theology, some believers in these doctrines have gone so far as to say that the Jews in Israel are not real Jews.  When the Tsar was killing “Jews” in the Russian pogroms, no one said to the Tsar “stop they are not real Jews.”  When the Nazis were killing these “Jews”, no one said to Adolph “stop they are not real Jews.”  Now, when these same “Jews” go back to Israel , all of a sudden they are no longer Jews!

Belief in false doctrines concerning the literalness of the rebirth of Israel blinds people to the work of God that is occurring right before their eyes.  God is moving to fulfill His word, and millions cannot see it because they are following false prophets or wrong doctrine about Israel and Jerusalem .  The very sad part is that believers in Jesus Christ, because of false doctrine, are actually against the work of God.  Many fail to support God’s covenant nation and oppose it, because of a false understanding of Israel , and the everlasting covenant.

Replacement theology and Islam are in 100 percent agreement against Israel .  They both refuse to recognize that Israel exists because of the everlasting covenant.  It is a scary thought that someone who names Jesus as their Savior, can be in such rebellion against God that they are in agreement with Islam.  As time goes on, the faithful Church will grow closer and closer with Israel while the church in great error may grow closer to Islam.

It is very serious, to be on the wrong side of God when He is defending His everlasting covenant.  The wrong doctrine can cause apathy toward Israel and the Jews.  This can lead to failure to pray for and support Israel in a time of crisis.  This incorrect doctrine blinds a person’s ability to recognize God’s judgment falling on America for forcing Israel to divide the covenant land.  Therefore, this person is spiritually unable to intercede for America as it faces judgment.

God is very serious about the land and covenant.  The Lord God of Israel will literally use Jerusalem as an anvil to destroy the nations that come against it.   Jerusalem will draw the nations like a moth to a light.  Multitudes of people have rejected God and the Bible or just do not believe His word.  This rebellion will cause the nations to come against God’s anvil.  God has warned beforehand what happens, when armies try to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem .  The entire world will see the mighty power of God, as He uses Israel as His anvil.

Thus God is using the rebirth of Israel to expose false prophets, false doctrines, and to have a literal witness on the earth to the authority of His word.  It is important that one’s faith be in accord with the truth of the Bible.  God’s word has been tested in the furnace of the earth.  The Bible has proven itself to be like pure gold and silver.  The everlasting covenant has been tested now for 4,000 years of history.  It is in effect for all to see.  God’s is faithful to His word and promises.

PMI EDITOR’S NOTE: As unapologetic Dispensationalists, we understand God is not finished with the Jews! We therefore are not only compelled, but proud, to stand with Israel- God’s Chosen People- in these last days!

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed . . . And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee (Genesis 12:3; 17:7).
